First Florida Adventures!

For my first adventure of the year, I decided to go to a state I had not yet visited…Florida! This may come as a shock to many people that in all my travels, I have never once ventured to the Sunshine State, especially since it seems the go-to spring break destination for fellow Kentuckians. But I can officially state now that I have been to Florida.

I flew in to Jacksonville yesterday to meet up with my friend Sarah. By the way, the Jacksonville airport is one of the nicest I have ever seen, a nice change from the building of misery that is the Dulles airport. The Jacksonville airport even had someone playing live jazz music!

Today we went to Mickler’s beach. The water was pretty cold, but we still had a good time. The nice thing about this beach is it wasn’t terribly crowded. While there were a lot of people at the point where you first walk out on to the beach, if you keep walking a little further it is easy to find a place to spread out with not too many other people.

We got a little creative and built a “shell castle.”

We even dug a “pit of despair”!

We weren’t the only ones to get creative. We found this really interesting graveyard type scene:

Unfortunately, we all did a horrible job applying sunscreen. I thought I had covered myself thoroughly, but apparently not! And of course I forgot my legs as usual.

We are spending the next two nights in a house in Kissimmee I was able to rent at a really good price due to a Living Social deal. Tomorrow we will head to Universal Studios to check out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which I have been dying to go to since it opened. Can’t wait to see if it lives up to the hype!
