Where am I going anyway?

I have some time to kill in a long layover, so this would be as good a time as any to explain what I’m doing.

I am traveling to Myanmar (sometimes referred to as Burma) on a grant through Fund for Teachers (FFT). If you want to know more about how to get an FFT grant, you can click here: http://www.fundforteachers.org/. My project proposal for my fellowship focuses on literacy. I will learn what the role of literacy in the country’s education system and collect oral stories commonly told. These oral stories will be used to help my students from Myanmar make connections with books and how they work. I also want to learn more about the cultures in Myanmar so that I can figure out how we can better support these students in our school.

For my fellowship, I will be traveling with GEEO (Global Exploration for Educators Organization). I have traveled on three other GEEO trips previously and have really enjoyed the experiences. I like that the fellow travelers are mostly all educators. It gives us a common interest that we can all pursue on our journey. I have met a lot of inspiring teachers from all over the US on my previous trips. The groups are fairly small at no more than about 15 people and we have plenty of freedom to explore our own interests. GEEO partners with G Adventures to make sure we have the best experience possible with the most knowledgeable tour leaders. If you want to learn more about GEEO, you can click here: https://www.geeo.org/

Otherwise, stay tuned! I am already on my way, but with the long flights and long layovers, I won’t actually arrive there until Monday. So for now, enjoy this brachiosaurus:
